As a teenager one of my favourite films was Shirley Valentine. It was perhaps this which meant that the first country I travelled to alone, ‘sans parents’, was Greece with (perhaps rather predictably for a Brit), a trip to Corfu when I was 18. I have not stopped going back since.
From Greek dancing:
To fabulous archaeological sites:
to its beautiful towns:
and to its islands:
Greece really does have it all. Once again the emphasis is on doing alongside seeing, so you could find yourself cheese tasting in Naxos, Greek dancing the night away in a beautiful taverna overlooking Athens, sailing around the beautiful seas of the Cyclades, cooking Cretan cuisine and much, much more.
One of the loveliest aspects of Greek culture is the emphasis on inclusion and participation. The Greek word ‘Xenos’ means both foreigner and guest which gives you some idea of how they greet visitors from further afield.
