Gorgeous Greek Gems: Crete and Santorini

Greece is home to some 6000 islands, 200 odd of which are inhabited, and the largest of them all is Crete.  Home to the world’s oldest olive tree and centre of Europe’s oldest civilisation, the Minoan (2700BC), this truly is Ancient Greece. In western Crete it is the Venetian influence which can be more keenly felt, in evidence in places such as Chania, with the lovely multi-coloured marina reminiscent of Burano and Portofino.  Across from Crete is the island synonymous with glamour and beauty: Santorini. Oía and Fira are the epitome of Greek charm: white washed houses dotted with blue domes.  This trip is about indulgence, both in terms of taking your time and in terms of food, wine and wellness. With boat trips, wine tasting, cookery lessons and wanderings through beautiful towns, the emphasis is on relaxation; a vacation to ensure that you return home rested, content and, to borrow a word from the Greeks, euphoric.

6th June 2020, Day 1: Welcome to Greece!

Today you will be whisked away from the airport to your hotel where you can unwind, relax and perhaps enjoy a wander around the charming marina of Chania, enjoying a walk out to the lighthouse to get the best views of the multi-coloured houses which adorn the harbour.  (D)

7thJune 2020, Day 2: Beautiful Botanical Gardens

Today you will be led around the Botanical Gardens where you can enjoy the scents of all the herbs, plants, fruits and flowers typical of the island before learning how to use those very same as the ingredients to prepare a typically Greek mezze lunch.

This afternoon and evening you have at your leisure perhaps to enjoy a visit to one of the local museums catering to interests as varied as soccer, maritime history and archaeology. (B, L)

8th June 2020, Day 3: Boats ahoy!

Today enjoy a day out on a private boat, visiting the truly spectacular beaches of Balos, Gramvousa and a private beach. A picnic lunch will be provided complete with alcohol and plenty of time for swimming and beach time. The evening is free to spend at leisure. (B, L)

9thJune 2020, Day 4: Putting the Gorge in Gorgeous

Today there is the option to spend the day relaxing and enjoying the beaches of Chania and the lovely town, or, alternatively, to enjoy a hike down through the Samaria Gorge, in the White Mountains of Western Crete. The afternoon is at leisure before we enjoy a Cretan farewell dinner together. (B, D)

10th June 2020,Day 5: Simply Santorini

Today you are off by high-speed jet to the idyll that is Santorini. Upon arrival you will check into the hotel and then we will head down to Oia to admire the famous blue domed churches and white-washed town, before heading back for an opportunity to soak in the pool and to soak up the world famous Santorini sunset, with the beautiful view over the caldera (B,D).

11th June, Day 6: Sailing the ocean blue

Today you head out on your private catamaran to sail around Santorini and enjoy some truly spectacular views and stops such as the Red Beach, so-called because of the colour of the sand.  There will be an opportunity to walk up onto the volcano and enjoy views across to Oia, or to swim in the hot springs of Nea Kameni; alternatively you could swim and snorkel off the boat. The evening is free for you to enjoy wandering through Fira, perhaps enjoying a meal in one of her myriad restaurants with amazing views. (B, L)

12th June Day 7: Cookery Lesson, Santorini style

Having learnt about Cretan cookery, it is now an opportunity to compare and contrast with a cookery lesson here in Santorini. The morning will be free as the lesson will take place at lunchtime. Following the cookery lesson you have a chance to relax in the hotel pool or take a stroll around the iconic Oia. (B, L)

13th June, Day 8: A day at leisure

For those who enjoy a lazy pool day, cocktail in hand, then this hotel is absolutely the place to do it. Amazing views from almost everywhere you look, beautiful pools, or perhaps a massage. For those wishing to venture out, there is the chance to do the Oia/Fira walk, a truly spectacular walk between Santorini’s two beautiful towns, before returning to the hotel to cool off. For our final evening we will dine out in style.   (B, D)
